PRESERVE OUR

RURAL COMMUNITY

URGE THE PERSON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO REJECT DOMINION ENERGY'S PROPOSED NATURAL GAS STORAGE FACILITY.

What is NoMEC?

Neighbors Opposed to Moriah Energy Center (NoMEC) is a project of Person County CAN. We are a group of concerned citizens who live near the site of Dominion Energy's proposed liquid natural gas (LNG) storage facility in Rougemont, NC.  The facility would initially store 25 million gallons of LNG in an otherwise rural, wooded area.  The site sits in close proximity to homes and a number of different threatened aquatic species.  We are asking the North Carolina Department of Air Quality to deny Dominion's air permit application for this project.  We are also asking the Person County Commissioners to reverse their decision to rezone to this property from rural conservation to general industrial.  Person County citizens must demand development that adheres to our county's Comprehensive Land Use Plan and is in harmony with the character of our community.

During their December 4 public hearing, all 35 speakers spoke against Dominion's rezoning proposal.  The County Commissioners then moved forward with a 5-0 vote, without any discussion.
